View Day One Results

GROVE CITY, Pa. -
Day one of the 2015 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships is in the books and the Cabrini swim teams have made their presence felt. Through today's 10 events, the Blue and white women are in second place, while the men are in fourth.

The women's team sits one spot behind Penn State Behrend with 47 points and is 13 points ahead of Franciscan. Penn State Altoona tallied 30 points, while Pittsburgh Bradford sits in fifth place with 27 points.

On the men's side, Penn State Behrend leads the way with 101 points. Pittsburgh Bradford ranks second with 42,  Penn State Altoona sits in third place with 37 points, just eight points in front of the Blue and White.

Senior Morgan Griffith, sophomore Christina Melchiorre and freshmen Casey Merrill and Stefanie Barkofski set a new program record in the 400 medley relay preliminaries with a final time of 4:17.99, topping the quartet of Merrill, Griffith, Melchiorre and sophomore Moira Prior's record set earlier in the year by eight seconds.

Melchiorre became the first Cabrini female to swim sub 25 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle. In the preliminary round, the sophomore placed eighth out of 53 swimmers, finishing with a final time of 24.91, breaking Andrea Carabello's previous school record of 25.23, set in 2007.

In the 50 yard freestyle finals, Melchiorre captured the AMCC crown for the second straight year with a time of 24.53, a time good enough to break her previous record set earlier in the day.  The sophomore's record was also good enough to top Rachael Ragen's of Penn State Behrend's AMCC record time of 25.05 set in 2011.

For the second year in a row, the women's 200 yard freestyle relay qualified for the ECAC Championship meet. The quartet of Griffith, Melchiorre and freshmen Casey Merrill and Brooke Hagan placed second and reached the wall in 1:42.57.

Griffith finished third in the AMCC in the 50 yard freestyle with a new personal best time of 25.10. Merrill scored a third place conference finish in the preliminary round that earned the Blue and White six points.

Sophomore Todd Walker and Hassan David Goines Jr. teamed with freshmen Nicholas Vivian and Rich Giuliani in the 400 yard medley relay. The team finished fourth and on the first leg of the race, Walker set a new program best in the 100 yard backstroke, topping his previous record of 55.08 by a little over a  full second.

Goines earned a fifth place finish in the 200 yard individual medley preliminary round, while Giuliani finished fourth in the AMCC in the 50 yard freestyle, reaching the wall in 22.96.

The Blue and White will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the second day of the three day championship event.
