AMCC Results Day 2
GROVE CITY, Pa. – Day two of the 2015 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships has come to an end. After today's 14 events, the Cabrini women's team remains in second place, while the men's team moved into third place.
Records fell today at rapid pace. Freshman
Casey Merrill broke the program record in the 400 yard individual medley during the prelims in 4:59.71, topping
Courtney Good's record set in 2014 by a total of eight seconds. In the 400 yard individual medley finals, Merrill took home the AMCC crown, topping her record set earlier in the day, reaching the wall in 4:59.09.
In the 100 yard breaststroke preliminary rounds, senior
Morgan Griffith broke her own 100 yard breaststroke school record set last season, with a final time of 1:08.89, good enough for third overall and an ECAC Championship A time. The senior topped her record later on in the 100 yard breaststroke finals, finishing second in the AMCC with a final time of 1:08.86.
Sophomore
Christina Melchiorre set a new program record and personal best time in the 200 yard freestyle preliminary round, finishing with a final time of 2:00.07. The sophomore went on to place second in the AMCC, reaching the wall in 2:00.85 just off her time from the morning session.
The women's team got off to a hot start, earning a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, while also setting a new Cavalier record. Merrill, Griffith and freshmen
Stefanie Barkofski and
Brooke Hagan placed second in the AMCC and reached the wall in 1:57.23.
The quartet of Melchiorre, Hagan, Merrill and sophomore
Allie Stein finished first in the AMCC in the 800 yard freestyle relay in 8:35.90, a time good enough for a new program best.
On the men's side, sophomore
Todd Walker teamed up with freshmen
Ryan Hagan,
Rich Giuliani and
Andrew Michael Stasis, earning a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay in 1:40.96, just off their record time of 1:40.61 set earlier in the preliminary round.
Walker, Giuliani and sophomores
Bobby Schmidt and
Hassan David Goines Jr. placed second in the 800 yard freestyle relay and set a new program record, finishing in 7:24.43. The quartet got off to a great start, as Walker opened up the first leg at record setting pace, breaking the programs record of 1:48.24 by a little over a second.
Walker also earned a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly. The sophomore completed the race in 52.53, just short of a program best.
Freshman Nick Vivian earned a fourth place finish in the 400 yard individual medley in 4:45.24. Goines placed fourth in the conference in the 100 yard backstroke, reaching the wall in 56.42, while Hagan and seniors
Scott Hunt and
Cody Kunze each earned personal bests.
The Blue and White will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. for the third and final day of the three day championship event.
