Women's Lacrosse Falls in Home Opener

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team fell to 0-2 on the young season after today's 13-6 loss to Haverford College at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Five Cavaliers found the back of the net today, led by senior Melissa Scanzano with a pair of goals.  Fellow senior Bree Thompson matched Scanzano's two points on a goal and an assist.

Senior Lacie Doubet, sophomore Jess Breuning and freshman Jackie Neary also tallied goals for the Blue and White.

Despite falling behind early, Cabrini rallied to build an early 2-1 lead after Thompson and Breuning recorded unassisted tallies.  The lead was short lived, as the Fords scored four unanswered goals, including one with just four seconds remaining in the half to carry a 5-2 advantage into the halftime break.

Scanzano converted as free position shot before Doubet's unassisted goal brought the Blue and White back to 6-4 with 24:30 to play.  Haverford then took over the game, recording seven consecutive goals, extending its cushion to 13-4 with 4:13 on the clock.

Neary scored her first collegiate goal with 2:13 to play.  Thompson found Scanzano for the game's final goal with less than two minutes to play.

The Cavaliers recorded 21 shots on the day, including 11 on goal, with six coming off Scanzano's stick.  Neary and senior Tori Canelli scooped five ground balls each, one more than Breuning.  Thompson grabbed three draw controls, while Neary caused five turnovers.

Sophomore goaltender Megan Barlow recorded 14 saves in the loss.

Sophomore Maura Grant led the Fords (2-0) with four goals and an assist, while junior Elyse Adler paired a goal and three helpers.

The Blue and White will look to regroup before traveling to Swarthmore College on Friday for a 5 p.m. nonconference tilt.
