Softball Closes Spring Trip 2-4 After Losses to Trine, ONU

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Cabrini softball team closed its 2015 spring break trip last night with losses to No. 6 Trine and Ohio Northern, dropping its overall record to 2-4.

The Blue and White fell to Trine 14-0 in the day's first game. Senior Steph Diegel and sophomore Taylor Gallagher tallied the Cavaliers' only three hits in the loss.

Sophomore pitcher Kiley Sharp suffered her first loss of the season, after allowing four earned runs in four innings.

In the night cap, a 12-4 loss to Ohio Northern, the Cavaliers fell behind 10-0 before the Blue and White rallied for four runs in the fifth.

With bases loaded, Diegel singled to right field, scoring junior Lea Enoch. Freshman Francesca Formisano kept the rally going, singling to center field, scoring junior Kaitlyn Cooper and sophomore Brianna Milillo.

Fellow freshman Emily Smull also picked up an RBI in the fifth inning, after a single to right field sent home Diegel.

The Polar Bears went on to score two more runs to take home the win.

Five Cavaliers recorded a base knock, including Diegel who tallied a pair of hits.  Gallagher fell to 0-2 in the pitcher's circle after allowing five earned runs in three innings.

The Cavaliers will return to action on March 18th, when they host Penn State Brandywine at Cabrini Field. The opening game of the nonconference doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
