Box Score 2 LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a pair of statement wins, as the Cavaliers topped Cairn 15-0 and 10-0, improving to 4-4 overall.
Freshman
Christine Ferraro led the Blue and White with three hits and three runs scored in the opener, while fellow rookie
Alexandria Ramos knocked in three runs. Sophomore
Kiley Sharp struck out three Highlanders in three innings to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Freshman
Francesca Formisano notched a leadoff double in the top of the first inning, while Ramos reached first on a walk. Junior
Kaitlyn Cooper's hit to right field resulted in an error, scoring Formisano and advancing Ramos to third base. Ramos went on to score on a passed ball.
The Cavaliers' offense remained steady in the second inning, tallying four runs on four hits to extend the lead to 6-0. Ramos picked up two RBI on a double, scoring sophomores
Taylor Mack and
Taylor Gallagher on the play. Senior
Steph Diegel also doubled, picking up two RBI as Ramos and Ferraro crossed the plate.
Six Cavaliers earned a RBI in the third inning. Mack's double to left field scored Gallagher. Ferraro singled up the middle, advancing Mack to third and scoring sophomore
Natalie Giannascoli. Cooper scored on an error before sophomore
Amber Dietrich singled to center field, knocking home Diegel.
The Cavaliers went on to score singles runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to ice the Highlanders.
In the nightcap, the Blue and White jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Cooper reached first on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second as Ferraro came home to score. Cooper then scored on a Diegel double. Senior
Becca Miles doubled a play later, scoring Diegel.
Cairn held Cabrini scoreless in the second and third innings but Blue and White found life once again in the fourth, scoring seven runs on nine hits.
Dietrich, sophomore
Lindsay Savar and Giannascoli reached on three singles to lead off the fourth. Mack singled to right field to advance the runners and scored Dietrich. Savar was thrown out at home plate, as Ferraro reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases once again.
Ramos kept the inning alive, as her double scored Mack and Giannascoli, before Cooper's single plated Ferraro. Diegel recorded an RBI single, while Dietrich's single extended the lead to 10-0.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Hohman earned her first win on the year after a strong showing on the mound. The freshman surrendered just two hits and added three strikeouts in the win. Diegel finished the game 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Cooper added a pair of hits, runs and RBI.
The Blue and White will be back in action Saturday when it welcomes the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (3-5, 0-0 AMCC) to Cabrini Field for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
