RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini softball team hosted the Centenary College Cyclones today in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Cabrini Field.
The Blue and White topped the Cyclones in game one 4-1, before falling 6-1 in the nightcap, leaving the Cavaliers at 14-7 overall and 10-3 in league play.
After three scoreless innings in the opener, a bases loaded knock in the fourth gave the Cyclones the lead.
The Blue and White rallied in the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits. Freshman
Christine Ferraro led off with a bunt single and advanced to second following classmate
Alexandria Ramos's sacrifice bunt. Junior
Kaitlyn Cooper then doubled to right field as Ferraro came home to score.
Diegel walked the next at bat. Senior
Becca Miles reached on a fielder's choice, while Cooper was forced out at third. Sophomore
Amber Dietrich stepped into the batter's box and launched a three run home run to left center to give the Cavaliers the 4-1 lead.
Freshman
Jess Giordano pitched a one, two, three seventh inning to lead the Cavaliers to victory. The freshman tossed a complete game, surrendering just one run on four hits. Giordano also tallied seven strikeouts to earn her second win of the season.
Sophomore
Lindsay Savar and Ferraro each tallied a pair of hits, while three other Cavaliers notched a hit in the win.
In the nightcap, Centenary tallied three solo home runs, one in the second and two in the fourth to give the Cyclones a 3-0 lead.
Diegel doubled to left center to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Two batters later, Diegel reached third following sophomore
Taylor Gallagher's ground out. Savar's RBI double scored Diegel.
The Cyclones added a run in the fifth inning and two in the seventh to seal the win.
Diegel earned two hits in the loss, while five other Cavaliers added a hit. Freshman
Kaitlyn Hohman surrendered six earned runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts.
The Blue and White will resume its suspended game against Gwynedd Mercy (16-5, 11-2 CSAC) tomorrow at Cabrini Field. Cabrini holds a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning with one out. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
