BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior
Lacie Doubet had a career game today, as the Cabrini women's lacrosse team scored an 18-6 win at Notre Dame of Maryland. The Cavaliers' fifth consecutive win improved the club to 10-5 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
With only Saturday's home game against Marywood remaining on the league slate, the Blue and White are in prime position to earn the top seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament, as well as home field advantage and a bye into the semifinal round.
Doubet led the Cavaliers with a career high 10 points on a career best eight goals in today's win, while taking just 10 shots. Classmate
Melissa Scanzano and junior
Sarah Carzo added five points each. Carzo matched a career high with four goals, while Scanzano paired two goals and three assists.
Sophomore
Katie Lasater added two goals and an assist, while fellow sophomores
Jenn Robinson and
Allie Vallen recorded a goal and a helper each.
The Cavaliers recorded 31 shots on the day, including 28 shots on goal. Carzo tallied six shots in the win, one more than Scanzano. Junior
Mo O'Connell scooped four ground balls, one more than Vallen and Scanzano, who also posted a season high seven draw controls.
While the Blue and White's offense was clicking, so was its defense, as it held the Gators to just nine shots. Sophomore
Megan Barlow anchored the effort, recording two saves to earn the win.
Cabrini also forced 23 turnovers, including 16 in the first half, when it held Notre Dame to just 6-12 in clear attempts. O'Connell and Scanzano caused three turnovers each, while freshman
Gabby Lee forced a pair.
The Blue and White wasted little time in taking control of the game, as Scanzano put it on the board less than 70 seconds into the game. Less than four minutes after the opening whistle, the Cavaliers owned a commanding 5-0 lead, a cushion that swelled to 9-0 before the Gators opened their scoring at the 13:23 mark.
After leading 13-3 at the half, Cabrini scored the first five goals of the second half, extending its lead to 18-3 with just under 13 minutes to play.
The Cavaliers will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday, as it hosts the Marywood Pacers (7-5, 6-1 CSAC). The opening draw is scheduled for 12 Noon.
