RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team clinched its 12th undefeated CSAC season with today's convincing 19-3 victory over the visiting Marywood Pacers. The Cavaliers' sixth consecutive win improved the club to 11-5 overall and 9-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The win also marked the Blue and White's third straight undefeated league slate, a win streak the now stands at 31.
With the victory, Cabrini also earns the top seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament. The club gets a bye in the tournament's semifinal round, scheduled for April 29, and will play for its 14th CSAC title in the comfy confines of Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The Blue and White seniors were determined today, as the class accounted for 12 of Cabrini's 19 goals. Senior
Lacie Doubet led the way with five goals and an assist, moving into second place on the program's all-time goal list with 213 goals.
Fellow senior
Melissa Scanzano recorded a season high six points, pairing three goals and three assists. The senior also corralled five ground balls, caused four turnover and controlled three draws.
Sophomore
Jess Breuning matched Scanzano's hat trick, while senior
Sarah Means added three points on two goals and an assist. Classmate
Bree Thompson added two goals and four ground balls, while sophomore
Allie Vallen paired a goal and a helper.
The Blue and White outshot the Pacers 38-11, with 35 of its shots on target, and turned the ball over just 14 times, while Marywood committed 27 miscues.
Sophomore
Megan Barlow recorded three saves to secure the victory.
The Cavaliers controlled the action from the opening whistle, as they scored the game's first 11 goals. Breuning opened the scoring less than two minutes into the action with an unassisted goal.
Minutes later, Cabrini essentially put the game away, as five Cavaliers scored six goals in a six minute span. At the 19:02 mark of the first half, the Blue and White had a commanding 7-0 lead.
The lead grew to 11-0 before the Pacers scored a pair of goals in the final minutes of the opening stanza.
Cabrini began the second half as it did the first, as Thompson found the back of the net less than a minute into the second half. The Blue and White ran its scoring streak to six before the Pacers returned to the score book.
Freshman Sam Bussinelli scored both of Marywood's (7-7, 6-3 CSAC) first half goals, while fellow rookie Erin Healy marked the score book in the second half. Freshman goaltender recorded a career high 16 saves in the loss.
The Cavaliers will close their regular season on Wednesday, when they welcome the University of Scranton to Edith Robb Dixon for a 6:30 p.m. tilt.
The game will also mark the final regular season home appearance for Cabrini seniors
