No. 16 Cavaliers Extend Title Streak to 15 with 18-6 Win

RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 16 Cabrini men's lacrosse team used a dominant first quarter effort to earn its 15th consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference championship with today's 18-6 win over Marywood University.  

With today's win, the Cavaliers have also earned the CSAC's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament, the club's 14th tournament appearance.  The club must wait until Sunday at 9 p.m. to learn its tournament fate on the NCAA Selection Show.

The Blue and White will enter the tournament riding an eight game winning streak, as today's triumph improved the club to 13-5 overall.

The Cavaliers controlled every facet of the game, as it scored a second consecutive championship win over the Pacers.  Cabrini outshot Marywood 63-24, including 37-14 in shots on goal.  It scooped 43 ground balls to the Pacers' 26 and won 19 of the game's 26 faceoffs.

Junior Kyle Bush earned Most Valuable Player accolades, as the junior netted a career high four goals and five points, to go with three ground balls in the win.  

Senior Damian Sobieski paired two goals and two assists, while freshman James Magnani posted a hat trick.  Sophomore Evan Downey also recorded four points on the day, including a career high three assists.  Senior Mike Leyden, junior Evan Allvord and sophomore Ryan Hannan also paired a goal and a helper each.

Senior Anthony DiNenno sparked the Cavaliers, going 15-18 at the faceoff spot and scooping six ground balls.  Juniors Brian Kittredge and Matt Ward secured four ground ball each, while Ward added his first career goal.

Sophomore Steve Halko caused a career high three turnovers, while freshman goaltender Tyler Morrell recorded six saves.  Fellow rookie Jake Reynolds added two saves in relief.

The Blue and White offense put the pressure on Marywood from the opening faceoff, as the Cavaliers fired 23 shots in the opening 15 minutes to just three for the Pacers, with a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Sobieski opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game with a man-up goal.  Just 25 seconds later senior Patrick Nolan's long pass found Bush for his first goal of the day.  Goals by Downey and Bush extended the lead to 4-0 before Marywood got on the board.

DiNenno won nine of his 10 faceoffs in the first quarter, as the Cavaliers built a commanding 8-2 lead after 15 minutes.

Bush added two goals early in the second quarter, as goals by junior Ethan Heisman and Magnani pushed the cushion to 10-2 midway through the period.  A late Marywood goal cut its deficit to 12-3 at the half.

The clubs exchanged goals in the opening half of the third quarter, as Magnani and Heisman  netted man-up goals, with Heisman's coming on a rare six-on-four situation.  Hannan and Magnani moved the net in the final minutes of the third, as the lead swelled to 16-5 with just 15 minutes to play.

Seniors Kevin MacQuilliam and Eric Streicher marked the scoring column in the final quarter.

Seniors Dylan Swope and Sam Trill joined junior Scott Slater with two goals each for Marywood (11-5).  Juniorgoaltender Joe Magargal recorded 19 saves in the loss.
