HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – After a difficult start to the season, the Cabrini women's soccer left the pitch with a good feeling today, as the Cavaliers scored a 2-1 win at Centenary College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both clubs.
The Blue and White improve to 1-4-1 with the victory in a rematch of the 2014 CSAC championship game.
Senior
Kaitlyn Cooper put the Cavaliers ahead in the seventh minute, when senior
Meghan Martin's cross found her. Both teams recorded six first half shots, but the Blue and White carried its slim one goal lead into the halftime break.
Just over three minutes into the second half, the Cyclones leveled the score at 1-1. Both teams created scoring chances, but Cabrini took advantage of an opportunity in the 82nd minute.
Junior
Allie Vallen was in the right place at the right time to collect the rebound off a shot by freshman
Brittany Woodruff, depositing it in the net for the game-winner.
As was the case in the 2014 title tilt, both clubs played an even match, with Cabrini outshooting Centenary 15-13, including 6-4 in shots on goal, and earning one more corner kick.
Cooper and sophomore
Taylor Tralie attempted four shots each, two more than Martin and fellow senior
Dana Peterson.
Sophomore
Alivia Dietsch recorded three saves in the win.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Clarks Summit, Pa. to face Summit University (2-4, 0-1 CSAC). Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
