READING, Pa. – For the fifth time this season, the Cabrini men's soccer team needed extra time to complete its mission. It took 98 minutes, but in the end the Cavaliers earned a 3-2 victory at Albright College, improving to 6-1-2 on the season.
The Blue and White fell behind early, as the Lions netted two goals in the opening 16 minutes.
Cabrini battled valiantly but couldn't find the back of the net until the 64th minute, when freshman
Jared Irwin notched the first of his two goals on the night.
The Cavaliers evened the score in the 79th minute, when freshman
Lucas Lampertti found sophomore
Joe Fiore, who recorded his third goal on the year.
Both teams created scoring chances in the final minutes of the game, including a Cabrini corner kick in the 89th minute, but neither found the winning combination.
Neither team created a solid scoring chance in the early minutes of the extra period, but Irwin made the most of the only shot in overtime, ending the game with a 98th minute blast.
Fiore led the Blue and White with six shots on the night, one more than Irwin. Junior goaltended
C.J. Serratore posted six saves to earn the victory.
The Cavaliers have some time to recover from its four matches in seven days stretch. Cabrini won't return to action until October 3, when it visits Centenary College (3-4). Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. in Hackettstown, N.J.
