SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It look longer than expected but in the end the Cabrini men's soccer team spoiled Swarthmore's home opener with a 2-1 overtime victory. The win improved the Blue and White to 2-0 on the young season.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore
Bobby Kane put the Cavaliers on the board in the 60th minute, as he collected a loose ball in the penalty area and deposited it in the net for his second goal of the season.
The Garnet took advantage of a Cabrini penalty in the 73rd minute, converting a penalty kick to level the score at 1-1.
Both teams had chances in the final minutes of regulation, but both defensive units held firm, sending the game to overtime.
While Swarthmore created the first scoring chance in the extra period, sophomore
A.J. Bishop put the game to bed with a blast from 18 yards out that deflected off the Garnet goaltender and into the net.
Swarthmore held a 17-10 advantage in shots and doubled the Cavaliers 8-4 in corner kicks. Kane, Bishop and classmate
Mo Konneh recorded three shots each.
Junior goaltender
C.J. Serratore posted five saves to secure the victory.
The Cavaliers have little time to enjoy the win, as they return to action on Sunday. Cabrini will face Widener (0-2) at 6 p.m. at Swarthmore.
