RADNOR, Pa. – For the second time in five nights, the Cabrini men's basketball team battled a tough Keystone College club and emerged victorious. The Cavaliers scored a 102-85 victory tonight at Nerney Field House, extending their win streak to five games and improving to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The Cavaliers got balanced scoring in the victory, as seven players scored at least seven points. Sophomore
Jair Green led the way with 21 points and three blocked shots, while junior
Ryan Charity scored a career high 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor in just 19 minutes of action.
Senior
Ace Henry knocked down five of his seven three point attempts en route to 17 points. Sophomore
Tyheim Monroe notched his 12th double-double in as many games, pairing 14 points and 15 rebounds, while freshman
Ivan Robinson added 11 points and a career high eight assists.
The Giants scored the first two buckets of the game before the Cavaliers responded with a 14-2 spurt, including a Robinson to Green alley-oop dunk. Henry and Green connected on three pointers on three consecutive possessions as Cabrini grabbed a 20-12 lead.
Keystone battled back to even the score at 27, but a triple by sophomore
Deryl Bagwell and a Green fast break lay-up pushed the Blue and White cushion back to five.
Ten of Charity's points came in the final 3:29 of the first half and, along with Bagwell's steal and lay-up, helped the Cavaliers build a 47-36 lead at the halftime break.
Cabrini expanded its lead to 15 in the first minute of the second stanza, as Green knocked down a pair of three pointers. The advantage grew to 59-43 at the 17:18 mark on a pair of Monroe free throws but the Giants would not go away.
Over the next 4:30, Keystone took control of the action, using a 21-4 run to take a 64-63 lead. The teams went back and forth over the next 3:45, with three lead changes and two ties during the span.
With the score tied at 70 and just north of nine minutes to play, a Charity lay-up and a steal and lay-up by Robinson put Cabrini ahead for good. Henry's final three pointer of the night capped a decisive 11-3 run, putting the Blue and White ahead 84-73 with 3:52 to play.
The Cavaliers shot .440 on the night and connected on a season high 11 three pointers. While Cabrini's 102 points marked a season high, the team also posted a season high 57 rebounds, including 25 offensive boards, 18 assists and a season low six turnovers.
Bagwell finished with seven points, as did freshman
Jimmy Robinson III.
Five players scored in double figures for the Giants (1-10, 1-5 CSAC), led by freshman Tyree Jones' 22 points and 20 from senior James Cooper. Freshman ShaShawn Drayton paired 15 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
The Blue and White will return to action on Wednesday, as it welcomes Rosemont College (5-8, 3-3 CSAC) to Nerney Field House. The CSAC showdown is slated to tip at 6:30 p.m.
