RADNOR, Pa. – Despite a furious comeback, the Cavaliers saw their five game win streak come to an end tonight, as the Cabrini men's basketball team suffered a 98-95 loss to the visiting Rosemont College Ravens.
With the loss, the Blue and White falls to 7-6 on the season and 5-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Sophomore
Deryl Bagwell led the Cavaliers with a career high 25 points off the bench, including 5-7 shooting from three point range. Classmate
Tyheim Monroe notched his 13th double-double in 13 games, pairing 21 points and 18 rebounds, with 18 points and 11 boards coming in the second half.
Freshman
Ivan Robinson connected on 4-8 from three point range en route to 17 points and five assists, while sophomore
Jair Green added 13 points and three steals despite being limited by foul trouble.
The Blue and White struggled in the first half, shooting just 35.7% from the floor and committing 10 of its 12 turnovers. Rosemont took full advantage scoring the game's first seven points.
Conversely, the Ravens shot over 55% from the floor in the stanza and extended their lead to 28-11 on sophomore Clayton Wolfe's three point play with 7:41 to play in the half. Cabrini forced a turnover on Rosemont's next possession, a defensive stand that sparked a 16-4 Cabrini run, culminating with a steal and lay-up by freshman
Kwame Dokes.
The Ravens scored the final four points of the period, taking a 44-36 lead into the halftime break.
Back to back three pointers by Robinson then a pair by Bagwell early in the second half gave the Blue and White its first lead of the night at 54-53.
Over the next 15 minutes the teams battled back and forth. Despite Rosemont momentarily building a six point cushion, the stretch featured nine ties and eight lead changes. The final tie came with 3:17 to play, as the clubs remained deadlocked at 83.
The Ravens built their winning cushion over the next two minutes, as it outscored the Cavaliers 7-0, building a 90-83 lead with 72 seconds to play. Rosemont connected on 10-16 from the free throw line, giving the Cavaliers an opportunity to pull closer.
Cabrini pulled to within 97-95 on a three pointer by sophomore
Robbie Brosh IV in the waning seconds. Sophomore Kyle Lafferty pushed the Rosemont lead to 98-95, splitting a pair of free throws with just 0.4 seconds on the clock, before Bagwell's 80 foot heave missed the mark at the buzzer
Brosh finished the night with a season high eight points and five rebounds, while junior
Ryan Charity added six points, four assists and two steals.
Junior Jamier Hughes led the Ravens (6-8, 4-3 CSAC) with 24 points on 10-15 shooting from the floor. Senior Marcus Thomas added 20 points and eight boards, knocking down eight of his 10 free throw attempts on the night. Lafferty was 9-10 from the stripe, finishing with 15 points.
The Blue and White will look to begin another win streak on Saturday, as it heads north to Scranton, Pa., where it will face Marywood University (4-10, 0-07 CSAC). Tip is slated for 3 p.m.
