Balance on Display in Women's Basketball Victory

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team rebounded from Wednesday's loss with tonight's dominant performance in a 72-39 victory at Cedar Crest College.  Tonight's game was originally slated for Saturday afternoon, but moved to today due to winter storm Jonah.

With the victory, the Cavaliers moved to 9-8 overall and 6-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The Blue and White got solid contributions from the entire roster, as all 13 Cavaliers saw between 5-21 minutes of action.  Eleven players notched the scoring column, led by freshman Nomi Washington with 13 points.

Seniors Meghan Martin and Kristina Startare added 12 points each, while junior Renee Oliver added eight points.

Cabrini controlled the action from the defensive side of the court, forcing a season high 32 turnovers.

The Blue and White also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Falcons 46-34 on the day.  The Cavaliers claimed 26 of its 46 rebounds on the offensive side of the floor, converting them into 19 second chance points.

Freshman Gaby Jones grabbed a career high 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.  Sophomore Sabrina Hackendorn added seven boards, one more than Startare.

The Cavaliers and Falcons exchanged slim leads in the early going, but with two minutes left in the opening quarter, senior Mo O'Connell found Jones for a lay-up that sprung Cabrini on a 7-0 run.  After 10 minutes of play, the Blue and White held a 16-12 lead and were off and running.

Cabrini scored the first six points of the second quarter, extending its lead to 22-12. The Cavaliers closed the period as it began, pushing its lead to 38-16 after scoring the final 11 points of the frame.

The halftime break did nothing to slow the Blue and White attack, as Cabrini outscored Cedar Crest 25-8 in the third quarter.  Oliver scored all eight of her points in a three minute, 11-0 spurt that pushed the Blue and White cushion to 40 points.

Tenille Stewart led Cedar Crest (0-17, 0-9 CSAC) with 18 points, while Rianna Kinard paired 10 points and six boards.

The Cavaliers will return to Nerney Field House on Wednesday, as they host the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators (6-10, 2-6 CSAC).  Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
