LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team showed little signs of rust, as it came off a month-long break from competition to score a 95-83 victory at Cairn University tonight. With the win, Cabrini improved to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Five players tallied at least nine points in the win, led by freshman
Ivan Robinson, who posted a career high 29 points. The rookie connected on 10-20 from the field, including 5-9 from three point range.
Sophomore
Tyheim Monroe extended his double-double streak to nine games, pairing 21 points and 12 rebounds on 8-11 shooting. Classmate
Jair Green hit 7-11 from the field en route to a 17 point, eight rebound, three assist and a career high four block performance. Senior
Ace Henry went 6-6 from the free throw line for 12 points, while junior
Ryan Charity paired nine points and eight boards off the bench.
The Blue and White found an offensive efficiency tonight that led to a .492 field goal percentage, with nine three pointers and just six turnovers, each among the team's best performances of the season.
Both teams exchanged leads in the opening minutes before Monroe and Robinson hit four consecutive free throws to push the Cabrini lead to 28-20 midway through the opening half.
The Cavaliers' lead hovered between 6-8 points until a three pointer by sophomore
Deryl Bagwell and a Charity layup extended the lead to 11. Cairn responded with an 11-2 spurt, pulling to within 43-41 with 74 seconds remaining in the half, but Green answered with the final five points of the period to give the Blue and White a 48-41 halftime lead.
Monroe and freshman
Jimmy Robinson III scored the first six points of the second stanza and the Cavaliers never looked back. A Henry triple pushed the cushion to a game high 18 points with 13:60 to play.
Cairn fought back, cutting the lead back to nine points before a pair of
Ivan Robinson three pointers and buckets by Green and Charity expanded the Cavaliers' lead back to 77-60 with 7:24 to play. Cabrini kept its comfortable lead through the final minutes, never allowing the Highlanders to pull within 12 points.
Julian Collazo led four Highlanders (5-5, 2-2 CSAC) in double figures, scoring 20 points, two more than Gerroid Doughty, who also recorded seven assists in the loss.
The Cavaliers will head north to Scranton on Thursday, as they visit Keystone College (0-7, 0-2 CSAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in La Plume, Pa.
