RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team extended its Colonial States Athletic Conference win streak to 29 games tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a wire to wire 52-32 victory over the Immaculata University Mighty Macs at Nerney Field House.
With the victory, the Blue and White evened its record at 6-6 overall, while improving to 3-0 in league play.
The Cavaliers displayed a balanced attack in the victory, with five players recording between 5-10 points. Senior
Kristina Startare led the way with 10 points, while senior
Dana Peterson and sophomore
Sabrina Hackendorn added eight points each. Senior
Meghan Martin and sophomore
Caroline Price chipped in with five points apiece.
Cabrini's +11 rebound margin matched its largest of the season, as all 11 players who saw action grabbed at least one rebound. Hackendorn's seven boards led the Cavaliers, while senior
Mo O'Connell, junior
Renee Oliver and freshmen
Gaby Jones and
Nomi Washington secured five caroms each.
The Blue and White took control of the game from the jump ball, as Cabrini scored the game's six points before holding the Mighty Macs to just one field goal in the first quarter. After 10 minutes of play, the Cavaliers owned a comfortable 17-3 cushion.
Despite controlling the action, the Cavaliers could not pull away. A 7-0 Immaculata run late in the second quarter pulled the Mighty Macs to within 21-14, but a late Peterson three pointer pushed the lead back to 10 points at the half.
Immaculata cut its deficit back to single digits early in the third quarter before the Cavaliers closed the frame with a flurry from deep, as sophomore Kate Skulski, Price and Peterson connected on late three pointers to extend the Blue and White lead to 39-24 with 10 minutes to play.
The Blue and White showed no let-up in the final period, as it held Immaculata to 4-13 shooting and forced five Mighty Macs turnovers.
The Cavaliers took advantage of a solid defensive effort in tonight's win, forcing a season high 28 turnovers while holding the Mighty Macs to just .286 shooting from the field, a season low for Cabrini.
Sophomore Theresa Walsh led Immaculata (2-9, 2-1 CSAC) with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Reilly Larkin added eight points.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Thursday, as Gwynedd Mercy (9-3, 3-0 CSAC) visits Nerney Field House. The CSAC showdown is slated for 6:30 p.m.
