Second Half Comeback Falls Short in Field Hockey Loss to Gwynedd Mercy

RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers turned up its pressure in the second half, as it tried to eliminate a 3-0 halftime deficit. But despite outshooting Gwynedd Mercy 11-2 in the second half, the Cabrini field hockey team suffered a 5-3 loss today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The loss drops the Blue and White to 4-6 overall end evens its Colonial States Athletic Conference record at 1-1.

Senior Taylor Mack paced the Cavaliers, tallying three second half goals, marking her third hat trick of the campaign.

The Blue and White built an 18-7 advantage in shots on the day, with Mack's eight shots leading the way.  Juniors Jackie Neary and Maddy Worley added three shots each.

After surrendering three first half goals, Mack put Cabrini on the board in the 55th minute, when she redirected a shot off Neary's stick.  

GMercy U responded with goals in the 58th and 59th minutes to build a four goal cushion.  The two goals marked the Griffins' only two shots of the second half.  

Despite its deficit, the Blue and White continued to battle.  Mack returned to the scoring column in the 63rd minute, collecting a loose ball inside the scoring arc.  The senior closed the scoring two minutes later, as she earned and finished a penalty stroke.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, when they host Widener University (5-4, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) in nonconference action. Game time is scheduled for 7pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
