Men's Soccer Drops CSAC Opener on Overtime Penalty Kick

RADNOR, PA – After battling back to force overtime, the Cabrini men's soccer team surrendered a game-deciding penalty kick in the 93rd minute of action, as the Cavaliers fell to the visiting Centenary University Cyclones 3-2.

The Blue and White fell to 3-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Cyclones improved to 5-4 and 2-0 in league play.

The clubs played an even opening 45 minutes, as senior goaltender C.J. Serratore made three first half saves to keep Centenary off the board.

Centenary took advantage of one of its seven corner kicks in the 53rd minute to score its first goal. The lead was short lived, as sophomore Jared Irwin collected a loose ball in the penalty area before recording his second goal of the year.

The game remained tied until the 82nd minute, when a Cyclones' blast put them ahead.  The Cavaliers again had an answer, as senior John Underwood's through ball found classmate Bobby Kane, who completed the play with his first goal of the season.

A Cabrini penalty in the 90th minute gave Centenary one final attempt in regulation, but Serratore was there to send the game into overtime.

The Blue and White created a scoring chance in the opening minutes of overtime, but Underwood's header was stopped by Centenary goalkeeper Devon Warne.  On the ensuing counterattack, a Cavaliers' foul led to the game-winning penalty kick.

Senior A.J. Bishop accounted for four of Cabrini's 14 shots, while Underwood, Kane and freshman Christopher Araujo recorded three each.  Serratore finished the day with a season high seven saves.

Junior Justin White paired a goal and an assist, including the game-winner, for Centenary and recorded 10 shots.

The Cavaliers will look to snap their two match losing streak on Wednesday, when they host Cairn University (4-6-1, 0-1 CSAC).  Kickoff is slated for 4pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
