RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini swim teams opened their 2016-17 seasons today, as they hosted Fairleigh Dickinson University and the University of Scranton.
The Cabrini men topped FDU 110-65 and fell to Scranton 130-68, while the women scored a 133-53 win over FDU and lost to Scranton 144.5-58.5.
Seniors
Hassan Goines and
Todd Walker led the Blue and White men, as both scored a pair of victories. Goines captured the 200 yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:06.63, and the 100 yard breast stroke in 1:03.34.
Walker claimed victory in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:49.04 and the 100 yard butterfly, posting a time of 54.45. Classmate
Robert Schmidt added a second place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle and a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke.
The Cavaliers bookended the meet with a pair of top three relay finishes. Walker, Goines and Schmidt were joined by junior
Nicholas Vivian in a second place finish in the meet's first event, the 200 yard medley relay.

Christina Melchiorre paced the Cabrini women, scoring a pair of second place finishes in the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard freestyle.

Candace Brown finished second in the 100 yard butterfly, while freshman
Lauren Finnegan added a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle.
Sophomore
Marissa Loro and freshman
Katherine Bruckman also placed third in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke, respectively. The foursome of Melchiorre, Loro, Finnegan and Brown ended the day with a victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 3:58.14.
The Cavaliers will return to action next Saturday, as they welcome Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) rival University of Pittsburgh-Bradford to the Dixon Center Pool. The action gets underway at 2pm.
