Women's Soccer Streaks End with 2OT Loss at Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – It took 107 minutes of end to end action but after the final whistle, the Cabrini women's saw a pair of streaks come to an end tonight, as the Cavaliers suffered a 1-0 double overtime loss at Gwynedd Mercy in the team's regular season opener.

The loss ends the Blue and White's 10 match unbeaten streak, closing the regular season at 10-6-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Today's result also snaps the club's CSAC unbeaten streak at 41, a run that dates back to a 2-1 loss against Neumann on September 25, 2013.

With today's defeat, the Cavaliers have secured the number two seed in next week's CSAC Tournament and earned a first round bye.  On Wednesday, Cabrini will host the second lowest remaining seed after Monday's
opening round matches in a tournament semifinal.

The Cavaliers and Griffins played a very even match, with Cabrini owning a slight 11-7 advantage in shot and 8-3 in corner kicks.

Despite recording the game's final corner kick in the 104th minute, the Blue and White's final shot came with 7:26 left in the first overtime.  The Griffins took advantage, posting the only two shots in the second overtime, including the game-winner off the foot of Ariety Fellenz.

Senior Allie Vallen led the Cavaliers with three shots, one more than freshman Katelyn Gilinger.

Junior goaltender Gabby LeGendre notched three saves before her shutout streak came to an end at 514 minutes.

Fellenz and Lauren Melino recorded two shots each for GMercyU (9-6-2, 7-4 CSAC), while goaltender Kailey Hopkins added seven saves.
