SWARTHMORE, PA – The Cabrini women's basketball fell to 0-2 on the young season after tonight's 75-59 loss to Moravian College on the opening night of the Swarthmore College Tip-Off Tournament.
Senior
Renee Oliver notched her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman
Erin Dodds recorded career bests of 14 points and seven boards.
Junior Myonie Williams added 10 points in the loss, while freshman
Pattie Fortescue notched eight points.
The Cavaliers fell behind in the opening quarter, as Moravian used a 9-0 spurt to build a 15-5 lead late in the opening stanza. Cabrini managed just nine points in the 10 minute period and trailed 18-9 after the first quarter.
The Blue and White found its offensive rhythm in the second quarter, recording 21 points in the frame. Unfortunately, the Greyhounds were just as efficient, matching Cabrini's 21 points.
The Cavaliers pulled within five points twice in the final 90 seconds of the half, but Moravian closed the half with four points in the final seven seconds to take a 39-30 lead into the halftime break.
Cabrini struggled to find its range as the third quarter began, as it scored just two points in the first eight minutes of the quarter. Moravian took advantage, pushing its lead to 52-38 with 10 minutes to play.
The Blue and White opened the final period with back to back lay-ups by Oliver and sophomore
Gaby Jones, but the Greyhounds had an answer. Moravian broke the period open with a 15-5 run over the next four minutes to expand its lead to 67-47 with five minutes left in the game.
Camille McPherson led Moravian (2-0) with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Morgan Calabrese and Maddie Capuano added 15 points each.
Cabrini has little time to regroup as it will face tournament host, Swarthmore (0-2), on Saturday at 3pm.
