IMMACULATA, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team pushed its win streak to a season high five games, and in the process, secured its place in Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference championship match with tonight's 1-0 semifinal win at Immaculata University.
The Cavaliers improved to 12-6-1 with the win and will now defend their 2015 CSAC title as they visit top seeded Centenary.
Despite building a 7-2 advantage in first half shots, Cabrini could not solve Mighty Macs goaltender Joe Lubonski, who recorded four of his 10 saves in the first half.
Similar to their first meeting, tonight's game remained scoreless into the second half. While Immaculata scored the game-winner in the 54th minute during the regular season meeting, the Blue and White recorded the game-winner in tonight's 55th frame.
Junior
Ben Roda's pass sprung senior
Bobby Kane for a breakaway, firing a shot into the lower right corner to beat Lubonski.
Cabrini continued to press for another goal, forcing Lubonski into five more saves.
Meanwhile, senior goaltender
C.J. Serratore and the Cabrini defense stayed strong. Serratore recorded both of his saves in the final 16 minutes of action, while the Cavaliers fought off four second half corner kicks to preserve the senior's ninth shutout of the season.
Kane and fellow senior
A.J. Bishop led Cabrini with four shots each, while Roda and sophomore
Jared Irwin added three each.
Lubonski suffered the loss for Immaculata (12-6-1) despite 10 saves on the night.
Centenary secured its spot in Saturday's title game with a 1-0 win over number five seed Neumann. Josh Weiss scored the game's lone goal in the 60th minute, as the Cyclones outshot the Knights 23-9, including 15-4 in the second half.
After avenging one of its regular season conference losses tonight, the Blue and White will have the chance to avenge the other on Saturday.
The Cyclones handed the Cavaliers a 3-2 overtime loss when the clubs met on Oct. 1 on a 93rd minute penalty kick. Irwin and Kane scored for the Blue and White, with Kane's 88th minute tally sending the match into extra time.
