Women's Basketball Opens CSAC Play with Convincing Victory

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini women's basketball rebounded from last week's loss at No. 3 Scranton and opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play in a big way tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a convincing 88-45 win over the visiting Rosemont College Ravens.

With the win, the Blue and White improve to 2-3 over the year.

Junior Kate Skalski matched a career high 20 points in just 19 minutes off the bench to lead a balanced Cabrini attack.  The sophomore connected on all six of her three point attempts, as the Blue and White hit 11-18 from beyond the three point arc.

Junior Myonie Williamson added 13 points, while freshman Pattie Fortescue added 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Blue and White got off to a hot start, as it scored 20 of the game's first 26 points.  Freshman Cassidy Gallagher's offensive rebound and bucket capped an early 8-0 run, as the Cavaliers pushed their lead to 15-4 midway through the first quarter.

The lead swelled to 20-6 when Skalski hit Fortescue for a lay-up. After 10 minutes of action, Cabrini held a commanding 22-11 cushion.

The Blue and White did not rest on its laurels, as it opened the second frame on a 10-2 run.  Skalski hit a trio of triples as Cabrini outscored Rosemont 23-5 in the second quarter, extending its lead to 45-16 at the half.

Freshman Erin Dodds connected on a three pointer on the first possession of the third quarter, and again, Cabrini was off and running. Skalski and sophomore Nomi Washington scored five points each in the period, while Williamson and Fortescue added four points each to help the Cavaliers extend their lead to 69-30 with 10 minutes to play.

The Blue and White built a 43-32 advantage on the boards, including turning 15 offensive rebounds into 20 second chance points. The Cavaliers also forced 31 turnovers, converting them into 36 points.

Gallagher finished the night with nine points and five rebounds, while Dodds chipped in with nine points and four assists. Washington recorded seven points, five boards and three steals in her first action of the season. Senior Renee Oliver added six points to her team high six rebounds.

Sophomore Ayanna Thompson led Rosemont (1-3, 0-1 CSAC) with 15 points, while freshman Shirl Brown paired 10 points and six rebounds.
