GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – For the fourth time in program history, the Cabrini field hockey team stepped off the field with the title of "Colonial States Athletic Conference Champions" after the Cavaliers scored a 2-1 win at Gwynedd Mercy University in today's CSAC title game.
Today's win marks the second consecutive championship for the Blue and White, who captured last year's title with a 2-1 win at GMercyU. This year's crown joins those from the 2009 and 2010 campaigns in the Cabrini trophy case.
With the victory, the Cavaliers improved to 12-7 on the year. Cabrini also claims the CSAC's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Tournament, which will begin on November 9. The Blue and White will learn their tournament fates on Sunday night, as the NCAA will release the bracket at 11:30pm.
Junior
Jackie Neary was named the game's Most Valuable Player after recording the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute.
Despite being outshot 12-4 in the first half, the Blue and White held its own, keeping the game scoreless through the opening 35 minutes.
The scoring came quickly after the break, as all three goals were recorded in less than four minutes.

Alex Swallow put the Cavaliers on the board in the 38th minute, cleaning up a rebound from a shot by senior
Taylor Mack.
GMercyU evened the score three minutes later, s Erika Cimino redirect a shot by Shannon Carroll.
The Cavaliers trailed for all of 36 seconds before Neary's blast from the top of the crease found the back of the cage.
The Blue and White turned to its defense to close the game, as it recorded just three shots and two penalty corners over the final 28 minutes of action.
The unit was up to the task, as Cabrini battled through two green cards and 10 penalty corners. Junior goaltender
Taylor Bookman also came up big, recording three of her 11 saves in the game's final 30 minutes.
All told, the Cabrini defense was key in today's championship victory, as it fought off 21 penalty corners and 13 shots on goal for the Griffins.
Mack led the Blue and White with four shots, while Neary and Swallow added two each.
Melissa Russo led GMercyU (13-6) with five shots, while four other Griffins added two shots each. Samantha Soscia notched six saves in the loss.
