Women's Basketball Closes 2016 with Loss at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The Cabrini women's basketball team closed the 2016 calendar year with today's 63-42 loss at Elizabethtown College.  The nonconference loss dropped the Cavaliers to 4-7 overall, while the Blue Jays improved to 10-1.

Junior Myonie Williamson led the Blue and White with 15 points, while freshman Erin Dodds added eight points. Senior Renee Oliver secured a game-high 11 rebounds to go with six points, her fifth game of the season with at least 10 rebounds.

Cabrini grabbed an early lead before the Blue Jays responded.  Elizabethtown broke the game open with an 11-0 spurt over a span of 2:35 late in the opening quarter.

The Cavaliers opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run of their own to pull within 19-16 midway through the period. The deficit swelled to nine points late in the frame, but junior Kate Skalski scored all five of her points in the final minute of the half to pull Cabrini within 28-23 at the break.

The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game, as Elizabethtown outscored the Cavaliers 25-5.  The Blue and White connected on just 1-10 from the field, including 0-4 from three point range, while the Blue Jays shot a blistering 9-12 from the floor and scored the final 16 points of the period.

Cabrini opened the final period on a 10-2 spurt, pulling within 55-38 on a Dodds' jumper with 6:16 to play, but the deficit proved to be too deep.

The Cavaliers shot just north of 35% from the field on the day and matched a season high with 23 turnovers, which Elizabethtown converted into 22 points.

Lydia Lawson and Emily Martin led the Blue Jays with a combined 24 points, 13 rebounds and six steals in the win.

Cabrini will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday, when it hosts Neumann University (4-5, 0-1 CSAC) in a rematch of the 2016 CSAC championship game.  Game time is slated for 6pm at Nerney Field House.
