RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers could not sustain the momentum from yesterday's win, as the Cabrini women's basketball team suffered a 71-54 loss to the Susquehanna University River Hawks tonight at Nerney Field House.
The nonconference loss dropped the Blue and White to 3-5 on the year, while Susquehanna improved to 6-1.
Freshman
Erin Dodds led the Cavaliers with 18 points and connected on four of her six three point attempts. Junior
Kate Skalski match Dodds' four triples en route to 14 points, while sophomore
Nomi Washington added 10 points.
Despite falling behind by five points in the early minutes of the game, the Blue and White battled back in a tightly contested first quarter. The River Hawks scored the final two points of the period to break a 16-16 tie and carry a 20-16 lead into the second stanza.
After shooting 40% from the field in the opening 10 minutes, the Cavaliers lost their shooting tough in the second quarter, shooting just 2-11, hitting only a pair of Skalski three pointers.
Susquehanna took full advantage, opening the second quarter with a 12-1 spurt to build a 32-16 lead. A pair of Washington free throws interrupted the run before the River Hawks added seven more points.
Cabrini recorded its first field goal of the period with just two minutes left in the half, as Susquehanna carried a 39-25 lead into the halftime break.
The Blue and White scored the first seven points of the third quarter, but the Rover Hawks responded with seven of its own to regain their 14 point cushion, a lead that swelled to 55-38 after three periods.
Sophomore
Gaby Jones grabbed a team high five rebounds, one more than freshman
Pattie Fortescue, while fellow rookie
Cassidy Gallagher dished out five assists.
Junior Angie Schedler led the River Hawks with 20 points, including five three pointers, and five assists. Senior Nicole Gault and junior Courtney Adams recorded matching double-double, pairing 10 points and 11 boards each.
Cabrini will turn its attention to next week's final exams before heading to Daytona Beach, FL for its next two games on Dec. 20-21. The Cavaliers will face Mt. St. Mary (NY) (6-0) on Dec. 20 and Edgewood College (0-6) on Dec. 21.
