ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team extended its win streak to five games with tonight's 97-82 victory at Rosemont College. The win improved the Cavaliers to 13-8 overall and 11-4 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
With just three conference games to play, the Cavaliers hold a two game lead over the Ravens for the third seed. Neumann sits one game clear of Cabrini for the number two spot, with the teams set to meet next Wednesday.
Four Cavaliers scored in double-figures in tonight's triumph, led by sophomore
Tyheim Monroe's second 20-20 game of the season. The sophomore scored 23 points and matched career highs with 21 rebounds and six assists, marking his Division III leading 21st double-double of the season.
Fellow sophomore
Jair Green connected on 10-17 from the floor en route to a game high 24 points with three steals. Freshman
Ivan Robinson netted 17 points, including 12 second half points, and handed out seven assists. Junior
Ryan Charity added 15 points off the bench on 6-9 shooting.
The opening 20 minutes featured a back and forth affair with 17 lead changes and three ties. Except for a span of 43 seconds, neither team led by more than three points until the final minutes of the first half.
Trailing 32-29 with just south of four minutes left in the half, freshman
Jimmy Robinson III connected on a three pointer that sent the Blue and White on an 11-0 run to build a 40-32 lead with 22 seconds left in the half.
A late Rosemont jumper sent the teams into the halftime break with Cabrini leading 40-34.
Rosemont wasted little time eliminating its deficit, as Marcus Thomas' three point play put the Ravens ahead 43-42 just over four minutes into the half. The teams exchange baskets over the next minute, but with the score tied at 47, Cabrini took over.
Over the next 4:42, the Blue and White went on a decisive 21-3 run to build a 68-50 lead with 11 minutes to play. The Cavaliers held Rosemont to 0-5 from the field with five turnovers during the run.
Cabrini's cushion ranged between 13-17 points for the game's final 11 minutes, expanding to a game high 79-60 on Robinson's jumper with just north of seven minutes to play.
Led by Monroe, the Cavaliers out rebounded the Ravens 45-38, with 20 rebounds coming on the offensive glass. The Blue and White notched 46 of its 97 points in the paint, while converting 16 Rosemont turnovers into 22 points.
Khai Roberts led Rosemont (11-11, 9-6 CSAC) with 22 points, including 4-6 from three point range, while Thomas finished with 21 points. Alex Epps-Ortiz added 12 points and a team high eight rebounds.
The Blue and White will return to Nerney Field House on Saturday, as it will face Summit University (3-19, 3-12 CSAC) for the second time in less than two weeks. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
