Sharp Shooting Scranton Snaps Cavaliers' Win Streak

RADNOR, Pa. – After a tightly contested opening 20 minutes, the Cabrini men's basketball team saw the University of Scranton shoot a blistering 67.7% from the floor in the second half.  The Royals' hot shooting was too much for the Blue and White as tonight's 94-73 loss snapped the club's six game win streak.

The nonconference loss dropped the Blue and White to 14-9 on the season, while the Royal simproved to 19-5 with their eighth straight win.

Six Cavaliers tallied at least eight points on the night, led by sophomore Tyheim Monroe and freshman Ivan Robinson, who posted 14 points each.   Monroe recorded his 23rd consecutive double-double, as he grabbed 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.  Robinson added six assists to his stat line.

Junior Ryan Charity added 12 points off the bench, while senior Ace Henry and sophomore Deryl Bagwell chipped in with nine points each, one more than sophomore Jair Green.

Both teams battled back and forth in a first half that saw two ties and 11 lead changes.  Trailing 16-15, Scranton used a 12-2 spurt to build a 27-18 cushion midway through the first half.  Cabrini responded with eight consecutive points, including a pair of Bagwell triples, as Charity's lay-up pulled the Cavaliers within 27-26.

Minutes later, Bagwell and Henry combined to knockdown three straight three pointers to give the Blue and White a slim 35-34 lead at the 5:27 mark.  The clubs exchange buckets, with Monroe's jumper evening the score at 39.  

Scranton broke the deadlock with a pair of three pointers and never looked back.  Robinson's jumper in the paint sent Cabrini into the half trailing 45-41.

Robinson's three pointer pulled the Cavaliers within 49-46 early in the second half, but the Blue and White would get no closer.  Cabrini's deficit swung between 6-9 points for the next 10 minutes, as every time the Blue and White was poised to make a charge, the Royals hit a timely bucket.

While Scranton converted each of its chances, the Cavaliers lost their shooting touch midway through the half.  The Royals took advantage, using a 12-2 run to extending their lead from eight points to 84-66 with 3:41 to play.

After shooting .500 from the floor in the opening stanza, the Cavaliers connected on just 8-31 in the second half.  Meanwhile, Scranton improved from .529 in the first half to a blistering .667 after the break, while knocking down 14-23 from three point range.

The Royals also took advantage of is size advantage, outscoring Cabrini 44-18 in the paint.

Sophomore Ethan Danzig and senior Brandon Bokin combined for 60 of Scranton's 94 points.  Danzig connected on a school record 9-14 from beyond the arc en route to a career high 31 points, while Bokin paired 29 points and nine rebounds.

The Cavaliers will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, as they travel to Neumann (17-6, 13-3 CSAC).  The Knights currently sit one game ahead of Cabrini in the conference standings with just two games remaining.  Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
