RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team rebounded from Saturday's regular season ending loss in a big way tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a wire to wire 90-70 win over the Immaculata University Mighty Macs in tonight's Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game.
With the win, the Blue and White improved to 16-10 on the season and secured a spot in Wednesday's semifinal round. The third Seeded Cavaliers will visit number two seed Neumann on Wednesday night at a time to be determined.
The 2015 CSAC Tournament finalists split a pair of games during the 2015-16 campaign. Cabrini's late rally fell short in a 92-80 home loss before the Cavaliers handed the Knights a 106-85 victory on their home floor just five days ago.
Six Cavaliers scored at least eight points in tonight's win, led by sophomores
Tyheim Monroe and
Jair Green. Monroe posted his NCAA leading 26th double-double, pairing 18 points on 8-15 shooting and 19 rebounds to go with five assists. Green hit 6-10 from the floor and 6-6 from the free throw line en route to his 19 points.
Fellow sophomore
Deryl Bagwell added 13 points, four assists and four steals off the bench, while junior
Ryan Charity added 10 points, including a thunderous two handed dunk.
After surrendering the opening bucket of the game, the Blue and White took control, hitting five consecutive field goals to take an early 10-2 lead. The Mighty Macs pulled to within 12-8 before the Cavaliers responded with a 7-0 spurt.
Immaculata stayed within reach until Bagwell's lay-up with 6:38 left in the half sprung Cabrini on a 10-0 run. Bagwell's steal led to a Monroe lay-up to give the Blue and White a 36-19 lead with just under four minutes left in the half.
Bagwell's jumper just before the buzzed sent Cabrini into the half with a commanding 44-26 lead.
The Cavaliers shot an even .500 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, but it was the team's defense that made the difference. Immaculata shot just over 30%, including 2-12 from beyond the three point line in the first half and committed eight turnovers which the Blue and White converted into 12 points.
Cabrini wasted little time extending its lead in the second half, as freshman
Robbie Brosh IV found senior
Ace Henry for a three that pushed the lead to 51-30 less than two minutes into the half. Minutes later, the cushion swelled to 25 points.
Freshman
Jimmy Robinson III found Bagwell for a lay-up at the 8:05 mark to give Cabrini a game-high 80-49 lead. The Blue and White punctuated the win with 5:01 to play, as Monroe tossed a rim-rattling alley-oop to Green.
Freshman
Ivan Robinson recorded nine points, while Henry finished the night with eight points and five rebounds. Robinson III added five points, three boards, four assists and two steals in his 20 minutes of action.
Junior Roy Ferrell, Jr. and senior Ron Melton finished the night with double-doubles for Immaculata (10-16). Ferrell paired 16 points and 10 boards, while Melton tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Matt Simon hit 4-6 from three point range en route to 14 points.
