CLERMONT, Fla. - The Cabrini softball team's 2016 season opened today in Clermont, Fla. The Blue and White fell 3-1 to York College, before falling 6-3 to Ohio Northern University.
After a scoreless first inning, a York single to right field scored a pair of runs in the second. The Green and White added another run in the top of the fourth inning on a single to left field.
The Blue and White answered back in the bottom half, with sophomore
Jess Giordano's single to left field that scored senior
Kaitlyn Cooper. The comeback effort fell short, as the score stalled at 3-1 the rest of the way.
Giordano picked up the loss in the circle, after surrendering three earned runs on eight hits. The sophomore also recorded four strikeouts in the loss.
The Cavaliers had just three hits through seven innings, with Giordano leading the way with a pair. Cooper added Cabrini's only other hit.

Against ONU, the Cavaliers scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, ending a three inning scoreless drought. Cooper's RBI double to left field scored sophomore
Christine Ferraro. Cooper then came home to score off freshman
Marissa Alpaugh's double to right center field.

ONU battled back for a five run fifth inning and added one more in the sixth to put the Polar Bears up 6-2. Freshman
Logan Needham scored off a ground out in the seventh inning, but that was all the Cavaliers could muster.

Ferraro led the Blue and White with a pair of hits, while three Cavaliers added an RBI in the loss. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Hohman pitched five innings, surrendered four earned runs and seven hits.

The Blue and White will play No. 11 Alma College (1-2) tomorrow at 5 p.m. before it takes on Capital University (1-1) in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
