Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Cabrini softball team split a pair of games tonight and are now 1-3 to start the year. The Cavaliers fell to the No. 11 Alma College Scots 4-0 before topping the Capital University Crusaders 3-2 in the nightcap.
In the loss to Alma, Cabrini struggled to get the bats going, with just three Cavalier singles through seven innings.
Sophomore
Jess Giordano was in the circle for the Blue and White and held the Scots scoreless through two innings, until a two run third inning opened the game's scoring.
The Scots went up 4-0 in the fifth inning after adding another pair of runs. The Blue and White managed just one hit the rest of the way.
Freshman Marissa Aplaugh led the Cavaliers with two hits, while sophomore
Christine Ferraro added one.
The bats came alive in the win over the Crusaders, as seven Cavaliers tallied a hit.
In the third inning, sophomore
Victoria Hall reached first base on a single. The sophomore made her way to third base on a pair of groundouts, before senior
Kaitlyn Cooper's two out single to third scored Hall.
Junior
Lindsay Savar doubled to right field to open the bottom of the fourth inning, later advancing to third base on a bunt. Savar then crossed home plate on freshman
Taylor Franchville's infield single.
The Crusaders scored runs in the fifth and seventh innings to tie the game late.
In the bottom half of the seventh inning, junior
Amber Dietrich reached first base on a wild pitch strikeout. Back to back groundouts advanced the junior to third base. With two outs, Giordano's single to shortstop scored the winning run.
Savar notched a pair of hits, while Cooper, Frachville and Giordano each added a RBI in the win.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Hohman earned the win in the circle for Cabrini, after surrendering just one earned run on four hits in seven innings.
The Cavaliers will play Otterbein University tomorrow at 1 p.m. and John Carroll University at 3 p.m.
