RADNOR, Pa. – After taking Marywood down to the wire and falling just short in their first meeting three weeks ago, the Cabrini women's basketball team was determined to create a different outcome as the two teams met tonight at Nerney Field House.
From the opening whistle, the Cavaliers were in control, as the Blue and White handed the Pacers their first Colonial States Athletic Conference loss 65-50. With the victory, Cabrini improved to 12-8 overall and 9-2 in the CSAC.
Five Cavaliers scored at least eight points in the win, led by sophomore
Kate Skalski, who hit 4-7 from three point range en route to a 14 point outing. Senior
Dana Peterson paired 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Meghan Martin added 11 points and five boards, while junior
Renee Oliver chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.
The Blue and White owned the glass, outrebounding the Pacers 62-43, its largest rebound margin of the season, with 26 rebounds coming on the offensive side of the floor. Seniors

With the score tied at 7-7 midway through the first quarter, freshman
Nomi Washington scored five consecutive points to spur the Cavaliers to a 15-4 spurt. Skalski closed the first quarter with Cabrini's final eight points, including back to back three pointers, to give the Blue and White a 28-14 lead after 10 minutes.
The Cavaliers turned up the defensive effort in the second quarter, holding the Pacers to just seven points on 2-18 shooting, including 0-6 from three point range. While Cabrini held Marywood scoreless for nearly seven minutes, the Blue and White used a 12-0 run to extend its lead to 40-16 with less than four minutes remaining in the half.
Cabrini held the Pacers to .242 shooting in the first half and 2-13 from three point range, as the Cavaliers carried a 42-21 lead into the halftime break.
Marywood nearly doubled its first half offensive output in the third quarter, scoring 19 points in the frame, but could only cut three points off Cabrini's lead. While the Cavaliers struggled with their collective shooting touch, the Blue and White remained aggressive, forcing seven Marywood fouls in the period and outrebounding the Pacers 16-9, including 11 offensive boards.
The Cavaliers pushed their lead to 63-41 early in the fourth quarter before both teams went cold from the floor. The score did not change for over five minutes before Marywood's Megan Salter hit back to back three pointers.
In snapping Marywood's program record nine game win streak, the Blue and White held the Pacers to just .295 from the field, including 7-24 from three point range.
Freshman Gabrielle Giordano led Marywood (13-7, 10-1 CSAC) with 10 points and five rebounds. Senior Alexa Gerchman added nine points, while freshman Rory Jordan grabbed eight boards.
Tonight's doubleheader also marked the third annual Cabrini Nation Night: #DoBlue event, sponsored by Cabrini Traditions. Both the Cabrini women's and men's teams wore their blue uniforms in front of the home crowd. Special commemorative #DoBlue t-shirts, rally towels and pendants were also handed out to students throughout the games..
The Cavaliers will look to extend their win streak on Saturday, as they host Cairn University (5-15, 4-8 CSAC). Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
Saturday's action will mark a special day for all of the CSAC teams, as the league will come together to Play 4 Jayden and JP, the children of Gwynedd Mercy men's basketball head coach John Baron. Jaylen and JP's mother is courageously battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and all 12 CSAC schools are teaming up to support these two deserving children.
