CLERMONT, Fla. – The Cabrini softball team fell to 1-5 on the year, after dropping a pair of games today in Clermont, Fla. The Blue and White suffered a 2-0 loss to Otterbein University and later dropped 4-2 result to John Carroll University.
In the day's opener against Otterbein, just three Cavaliers notched a hit, with sophomore
Emily Smull leading the way with a pair.
Despite the loss, sophomore pitcher
Jess Giordano had a good game, as she held the Cardinals to just five hits and two earned runs.
After four scoreless innings, the Cardinals jumped ahead in the bottom of the fifth, as a two out bases loaded single played the game's only two runs.
After surrendering a run in the first inning to the John Carroll Blue Streaks, the Cavaliers got the run back in the bottom half. Sophomore
Christine Ferraro led off with a single and proceeded to steal second and third bases. Later in the inning, freshman
Marissa Alpaugh's single scored Ferraro.
The Blue Streaks scored a run in the second and two in the third to break the tie and reclaim the lead.
Trailing 4-1, Ferraro opened the third Inning with a single, before scoring on an error by the third baseman two batters later. After reaching third base on the error, senior
Kaitlyn Cooper was left stranded in scoring position, as an infield line out and groundout ended the inning.
The Blue and White didn't record a hit the rest of the game.
Ferraro's two hits were a team high, while Alpaugh's first inning single marked the lone RBI for the Blue and White.
The Cavaliers will make the journey across Eagle Road on March, 15, when the club squares off in a double-header against Eastern University (2-2). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
