OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Cavaliers were just minutes from snapping No. 3 RIT's 46 regular season game win streak, but for the second consecutive year, the Tigers rallied to claim victory over the Blue and White.
The No. 5 Cavaliers suffered their second defeat in as many nights after tonight's 11-10 overtime loss to RIT. Cabrini dropped both of its contests at this weekend's Green Turtle Classic, falling to 5-2 overall.
Senior
Kyle Bush scored his second goal of the night with 6:26 on the clock to give Cabrini a 10-7 lead, but RIT responded with three goals in a span of 3:27, evening the score at 10-10 with 2:15 left in regulation.
Despite not controlling the ball for the final four minutes of regulation, the Blue and White held on to send the game to overtime.
RIT won the opening faceoff on the extra period, recording all three shots, including the game-winner 1:36 into the four minute frame.
Freshman
Timmy Brooks led Cabrini with a season high four points on two goals and two assists. Junior
Evan Downey paired two goals and an assist, while Bush found the back of the net twice.
Senior
Dan Hopson accounted for three of Cabrini's six caused turnovers, as a quartet of Cavaliers secured three ground balls each. Sophomore goaltender
Tyler Morrell suffered the loss despite matching a career high with 16 saves.
The Blue and White grabbed control of the game midway through the first quarter. Bush opened the scoring at the 7:15 mark with an unassisted tally. Freshman
Matt LoParo hit Brooks for a man-up goal late in the period. The Blue and White closed the opening quarter with a 3-0 lead after freshman
Jordan Krug connected with senior
Ethan Heisman in the final minutes of the frame.
RIT briefly stopped the scoring run, but the Blue and White pushed its lead to 6-1 midway through the second quarter after scoring three goals in three minutes. Downey found Krug for a man-up goal befor Brooks hit Downey less than a minute later. Junior
Ryan Hannan's goal extended the lead with 7:16 left in the half.
The Tigers recorded three goals in the final seven minutes of the half, closing its deficit to 6-4 with 30 minutes to play.
Hopson notched his first goal of the season just 16 seconds into the third quarter to regain the three goal cushion. Both teams exchanged goals through the third quarter, with Brooks and Downey recording unassisted tallies.
Braden Wallace led RIT (7-0) with three goals, while Ryan Lee paired two goals, including the game-tying goal with 2:15 left in regulation, and an assist. Josh Harris scooped seven ground balls, while goaltender Jarryd Lee notched nine saves.
Cabrini will have a few days to regroup before returning to action next Saturday, as it travels to Update New York to face No. 20 SUNY Cortland (1-4). Game time is slated for 12 Noon.
In today's other games at the Green Turtle Classic, No. 13 Denison (7-1) topped No. 9 Nazareth (4-2) 16-12, No. 14 Lynchburg (4-4) scored a 9-7 win over No. 6 York (7-1) and No. 18 Dickinson (5-3) stopped Stevenson (3-4) 13-10.
