Softball Drops a Pair at Eastern

St. Davids, Pa. - Coming off a sweep against Immaculata, the Blue and White softball team dropped a pair of games today at Eastern, as the Cavaliers fell to 4-7 on the year after today's 5-1 and 7-4 losses.

After two scoreless innings in the opener, the Eagles broke the scoring open with a big four run third inning. Eastern scored one more time in the fifth inning.

Down 5-0, the Cavaliers found some life as a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly gave Cabrini its first run. Junior Kaitlyn Cooper opened the sixth inning with a double and advanced to third base on a ground out. Junior Lindsay Savar's fly ball to left field was deep enough to score Cooper the following at bat.

The Cavaliers' bats were silent the rest of the way, as Eastern captured game one. Six Cavaliers tallied a hit in the loss, while sophomore pitcher Jess Giordano fell to 2-3 in the pitcher's circle.

Cabrini scored early in game two. In the top of the first inning, sophomore Christine Ferraro reached on an infield error and later scored on freshman Marissa Alpaugh's single.

Eastern answered with a four run second inning on one hit, three walks and three errors to take the lead.

The Blue and White tied the score in the third inning. Cooper led off with a triple, while Alpaugh follwed with her second single. The following at bat, Savar doubled, plating Cooper. Giordano followed, reaching first on a fielder's choice, scoring Alpaugh. Freshman Taylor Franchville's RBI single scored Savar.

The Eagles finished strong to take the win, notching runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Cavaliers combined for eight hits, while Alpaugh and Savar led the way with two apiece. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hohman suffered the loss despite recording four strike outs.

The Blue and White will travel to Ewing, N.J. on Wednesday, as the Cavaliers will face The College of New Jersey (10-5) in a nonconference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
