EWING, N.J. - The Cabrini softball team dropped to 4-9 on the year, following today's 5-4 and 15-1 losses at The College of New Jersey.
The Cavaliers entered the scoring column early in the day's first game, as the Blue and White tallied a pair of runs in the first inning.
Sophomore
Christine Ferraro started the game with a walk and advanced to second base following junior
Amber Dietrich's SAC bunt. Senior
Kaitlyn Cooper reached first base on a hit by pitch, while freshman
Marissa Alpaugh drew the walk to load the basses the next at bat.
Two batters later, sophomore
Jess Giordano reached on an error by the second baseman, while Ferraro crossed home plate. With two outs and the basses loaded, Cooper came home to score, as sophomore
Emily Smull drew the walk. A pop up to the pitcher ended the run.
TCNJ got a run back in the bottom half, as a walk, a wild pitch and a single through the middle netted the Lions first run.
In the top of the fourth, the Blue and White notched two runs on three hits and two errors. With two outs and Dietrich on second base, Cooper doubled to left center field, plating Dietrich. Cooper scored on an Alpaugh single the next at bat.
TCNJ tallied a run in the bottom half of the fourth and fifth innings to bring the Lions to within one.
The Lions held the Cavaliers scoreless the rest of the way. In the bottom of the seventh inning, TCNJ scored a pair of runs on three hits, as the Lions closed game one in walk-off fashion.
The Blue and White combined for six hits, with Cooper leading the way with a pair. Cooper and Smull tallied the Cavaliers only two RBI in game one.
Giordano fell to 2-4 in the pitcher's circle, after tossing 6.2 innings and surrendering five earned runs. The sophomore struck out three Lions in the loss.
Game two was a struggle for the Cavaliers, as TCNJ out hit Cabrini 12-3. Ferraro opened the top of the first inning with a walk, while Dietrich's infield single the next at bat advanced Ferraro to second.
Cooper followed with a single to shortstop to load the bases. Alpaugh reached first on a fielder's choice, as Ferraro was thrown out at home. Junior
Lindsay Savar put the ball in play with a groundout RBI to third base, scoring Dietrich. An infield pop up ended the top half.
TCNJ got the run back in the bottom half and added to its lead, scoring two runs in the second, seven runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to ice the Cavaliers.
Dietrich, Cooper and Alpaugh accounted for all of Cabrini's hits, while Savar tallied the Cavaliers' only RBI.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Hohman surrendered seven earned runs through 2.1 innings in the circle for the Blue and White, falling to 2-4 on the year.
Cabrini hosts Summit (3-2) on Friday in a conference doubleheader at Cabrini Field. Game one is set for a 3 p.m. start.
