RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team saw its five game win streak come to an end, as the Cavaliers suffered a 10-4 loss to No. 3 The College of New Jersey Lions tonight at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
The nonconference defeat drops the Blue and White to 5-3 on the season.
Sophomore
Jackie Neary tallied a pair of goals and shared game high honors with three draw controls. Junior
Jess Breuning notched a goal and an assist and won three draws. Classmate
Jenn Robinson also added a goal for the Cavaliers.
Freshman
Katie Kucia paired three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while sophomore
Sasha Wozniak secured two ground balls. Junior goaltender
Megan Barlow posted 11 saves and two ground balls in the loss.
The Lions opened the scoring nearly six minutes into the action. The Cavaliers responded quickly, as Breuning controlled the ensuing draw and headed straight to the net, evening the score just 20 seconds later.
It took Cabrini just 11 seconds to take the lead, as Neary made a carbon copy of Breuning's goal to take a 2-1 lead and force a TCNJ timeout.
The Lions found their offensive rhythm after the timeout, evening the score two minutes later, before taking the lead for good at the 20:25 mark.
Cabrini held its own through the remainder of the first half, as a Lions' free position shot in the final seconds of the half gave TCNJ a 5-2 lead at the break.
TCNJ continued its scoring streak into the second half, s its lead grew to 8-2 midway through the second stanza. Neary ended the run at the 13:39 mark with her 11th goal of the campaign. Robinson marked the scorebook just 40 seconds later, as Breuning's bullet pass found the junior in front of the TCNJ cage.
Senior Cortney Natalicchio led the Lions (8-1) with four goals, two assists and two caused turnovers, while sophomore Emily Kratz tallied three goals. Sophomore Elizabeth Morrison had an all-around game, recording two goals, an assist, six ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
The Blue and White will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday, as it welcomes Rosemont College (1-8, 0-4 CSAC) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 12 Noon.
