Softball Earns Sweep at Rosemont



ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Cabrini softball team improved to 6-9 overall and 4-0 in the CSAC after today's 9-0 and 11-1 wins at Rosemont.

Cabrini opened the first inning of the doubleheader with six runs on five hits. Sophomore Christine Ferraro reached first on a walk and stole second. Junior Amber Dietrich followed with a single to left field, advancing Ferraro to third base. Dietrich stole second base, following a pop fly to the catcher. 

The runners advanced and Ferraro crossed home plate, as freshman Marissa Alpaugh's single reached left field. A passed ball plated Dietrich, while Alpaugh made her way to second base. Junior Lindsay Savar's single to left field plated Alpaugh. Following a hit by pitch, sophomore Emily Smull crushed a three run home run over the left field wall. A strike out and a pop out ended the top half. 

The Blue and White scored two more runs in the second. With two outs, Savar reached first base on a single to left field. Sophomore Jess Giordano doubled to left center field, as Savar advanced to third. The two base runner's scored following a smull single to center field. 

The Cavaliers scored once more in the fifth inning, as Alpaugh's single to left field scored sophomore Brittany Smith

Giordano picked up the win in the pitcher's circle for the Blue and White, improving to 3-4 on the year. The sophomore surrendered just one hit and added eight strike outs in the win. 

Smull led a hot Cavaliers offense, as the sophomore tallied a home run, two hits and four RBI. Alpaugh went 3-4 and added two RBI, while the Blue and White combined for 14 hits. 

Game two was more of the same, as the Cavaliers combined for 15 hits and eight RBI. 

Ferraro opened the first inning with an infield single and then stole second base. Dietrich drew a walk, while Alpaugh followed with an RBI single to left field. 

Two batter's latter, a Giordano double to left field plated Dietrich and Alpaugh. The Cavaliers managed one more run in the top half, as freshman Darian Caputo's single to right field scored Giordano. 

The Blue and White scored five more runs in the top of the third inning on four hits. Caputo reached on an infield error, while sophomore Victoria Hall and Ferraro drew the base on balls the next two at bats. 

With one out and the bases loaded, junior Kaitlyn Cooper singled to left field, scoring Ferraro and Hall. Alpaugh followed with a two run blast to left field, as the rookie recorded her second homer of her career.  

Rosemont got a run back in the bottom half but the Blue and White pressed on, holding the Ravens scoreless the rest of the way. Cabrini added an insurance run in the fifth to close the door shut on the Ravens. 

Sophomore Kaitlyn Hohman earned the win in the circle, after tossing four innings and allowing just one run. Five Cavaliers tallied a pair of hits in the win, while Giordano led the way with a game high three hits. 

The Cavaliers host Summit University (3-11, 0-0 CSAC) on Monday in a CSAC doubleheader at Cabrini Field. Game one is set for 3 p.m.
