RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team dropped a pair of games to Neumann today, falling 7-4 in game one and 10-5 in game two. After today's losses, the Blue and White falls to 14-13 overall and 11-3 in the CSAC.
In the second inning of game one, freshman
Darian Caputo doubled to left field, scoring junior
Lindsay Savar. Sophomore
Sarah Beckner and Caputo crossed home plate the following at bat, as junior
Taylor Mack singled to right field.
With two outs and two on, the Knights scored a run on an outfield error and added three more on a homer to center field.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Knights tallied a pair of runs on three hits in the fifth.
In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Caputo found herself caught in a rundown and beat it, as the rookie made it to second base, while sophomore
Brittany Smith stole home on the unsuccessful throw to second.
The Knights added one more run in the seventh and held the Blue and White scoreless to capture the game one victory.
Caputo went 3-3 and tallied an RBI in the loss, while Mack finished with a pair of hits and RBI.
Sophomore
Jess Giordano fell to 7-5 in the pitcher's circle, after surrendering three earned runs and seven total runs through seven innings of action.
The intensity between Cabrini and Neumann carried into game two, as the two teams jostled for the top spot in the conference.
Both offenses were scoreless through three innings but Neumann ended the drought with a grand slam in the fourth. The Knights added one more in the fifth, as a solo shot went over the left field wall.
The Cavaliers pressed on with a big sixth inning, as back to back to back home runs from Savar, Giordano and sophomore
Emily Smull cut the lead to 7-5.
The Neumann defense was rattled but managed to collect itself and extend the lead in the seventh, as three runs on three hits gave the Knight a 10-5 lead.
The Blue and White was shut out in the bottom half, as Lauren Wilkie retired the side.
Savar led the Cavaliers with a team high two RBI, while three other Cavaliers tallied a RBI in the loss.
Junior
Kiley Sharp dropped to 2-3 in the circle, after surrendering seven earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Hohman finished the game in the circle, allowing three hits and two earned runs.
The Cavaliers are back in action on Tuesday, as the Blue and White welcomes Cedar Crest College (16-10, 7-1 CSAC) to Cabrini Field for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
