RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini softball team improved to 16-13 overall and 13-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, after today's 10-1 and 6-5 wins over the Cedar Crest Falcons.
The Cavaliers wasted no time entering the scoring column in the opener, as freshman Darian Caputo launched a solo home run to right field to open the bottom half of the first inning. With sophomore Christine Ferraro on first, senior Kaitlyn Cooper crushed a line drive that bounced off the right fielder's glove, plating Ferraro.
A wild pitch in the second inning, scored freshman Marissa Alpaugh, who reached the base path on a single to right field.
The Falcons scored a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly but the Blue and White extended the lead to 7-1 in the fourth, after a four run inning.
Caputo's double to left field scored juniors Taylor Mack and Amber Dietrich. Caputo scored a few batters later, as sophomore Jess Giordano's single through the left side got the run home. Junior Lindsay Savar's RBI fielder's choice then plated Ferraro.
The Cavaliers closed the door on Cedar Crest with a three run fifth inning.
Caputo led the Blue and White offense with a 3-4 performance from the plate, three RBI and three runs scored, while Cooper notched a pair of RBI in the win.
Giordano picked up the win in the circle, as the sophomore surrendered just one earned run in five innings of action.
Game two was a battle until the very end.
Cooper's RBI groundout in the first inning of game two, plated Ferraro, who advanced home on the throw to first.
The Falcons answered with one run in the second inning and three in the fourth inning.
In the bottom half of the fourth inning, Mack doubled to right center field, scoring sophomore Sarah Beckner.
The Cavaliers and Falcons traded runs in the fifth inning, making it 5-3 Cedar Crest.
Down two runs in the seventh inning, Ferraro notched a lead off single. Cooper stepped into the batter's box and crushed a two run home run to tie things up at five. Giordano followed up with a walk off home run to left field, as the Cavaliers went back to back to steal game two.
Ferraro was clutch in the batter's box, as the sophomore went 4-4 and scored three times. Cooper was 1-3 and led the Blue and White with three RBI, while three other Cavaliers earned a RBI in the win.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Hohman earned the win in the pitcher's circle, after tossing 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
The Cavaliers welcome Widener University (23-5, 8-4 MAC Commonwealth) tomorrow to Cabrini Field for a nonconference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
