RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team extended its win streak to four games with today's 14-0 and 11-3 wins over the Summit Defenders at Cabrini Field. The victories improved the Blue and White to 8-9 overall and 6-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The Cabrini offense churned out a seven run first inning to kick off today's action. Sophomore
Christine Ferraro scored on junior
Amber Dietrich's RBI double to left center. Freshman
Marissa Alpaugh launched a three run home run over the center field wall, marking the rookie's third homer on the year.
Later in the frame, sophomore
Emily Smull singled to left field, scoring junior
Lindsay Savar. Sophomore
Jess Giordano reached home plate on a fielder's choice. Ferraro's single to right center plated Smull, giving Cabrini a 7-0 lead.
Alpaugh started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, as senior
Kaitlyn Cooper crossed home plate on the freshman's double. Alpaugh later scored on an infield error. Sophomore
Alexandria Ramos' double down the right field line plated Savar.
Dietrich singled down the left field line, scoring Smull, while Cooper followed with a single down the right field line, as Ramos crossed home plate. Alpaugh tallied her second hit in the inning, as the freshman's single to right center was deep enough to score Ferraro.
The Blue and White extended its lead to 14-0 in the bottom of the third inning, after sophomore
Brittany Smith's double scored Smull.
Giordano and the Cavaliers defense held Summit scoreless the rest of the way.
Alpaugh was the standout star on offense for the Cavaliers, as the rookie went 3-3 from the batter's box and tallied a game high four RBI on a home run, double and single. Smull also went 3-3 from the plate and added a RBI, while the Blue and White combined for 14 hits in the win.
Giordano pitched five shutout innings and struck out four Defenders. The sophomore improved to 4-4 in the pitcher's circle.
In game two, the Cavaliers trailed 3-2 at the top of the third inning, but the offense fought back, scoring five runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it 11-3, Cavaliers.
In the bottom of the first, Cooper doubled down the right field line, as Ferraro came home to score.
The Blue and White added another run in the second inning, as sophomore
Victoria Hall sent one flying over the right center field wall. The home run marked the first of the season for Hall.
In the bottom half of the third inning, Cooper recorded her first homer on the season, as the senior launched a two run blast over the left field wall. Three batters later, a wild pitch plated Giordano.
Hall opened the bottom of the fourth inning with a double to left field, while Ferraro singled a batter later. Both Hall and Ferraro made their way around the base paths, as Dietrich tripled to center field.
Dietrich scored the next at bat, as Cooper's single to center field was deep enough to get the run in. Cooper proceeded to steal second, advance to third on Alpaugh's ground out to third base and score on a Giordano single through the middle.
Dietrich's single to center field in the bottom of the fifth ended game two, as Ferraro and freshman
Darian Caputo scored, Giving Cabrini an eight run lead after five innings of play.
Cooper led the Blue and White offense in the nightcap, as the senior tallied a game high four RBI after going 3-3 from the plate. Eight Cavaliers combined for 13 of Cabrini's hits in the win.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Hohman improved to 4-4 in the circle after tossing 2.2 innings and striking out four Defenders. Junior Kylie Sharp pitched 2.1 innings and added two strike outs.
The Blue and White is back in action Saturday, when it hosts Cairn (0-16, 0-6 CSAC) in a CSAC doubleheader at 12 p.m.
