Senior Day Win Closes Perfect CSAC Season

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team closed its regular season home schedule with a resounding 18-4 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
 
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 11-4 on the season and with a 9-0 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference play, the Blue and White clinched the number one seed and home field advantage in the upcoming CSAC Tournament.

Today's game also marked the final regular season home appearance for Cabrini's five seniors, Krista Hoffman, Katie Lasater, Mo O'Connell, Dana Peterson and Caitlyn Poole.  Head coach Jackie Neary presented the ladies with flowers and a gift prior to the opening whistle.

The group has led the Blue and White to 50 career victories, including 34-0 in conference play with three straight CSAC titles and an NCAA Tournament victory.  As a group, these ladies have recorded 148 points, 115 goals, 180 ground balls, 45 draw controls and caused 78 turnovers in a combined 159 appearances in the Blue and White.

Junior Jess Breuning led 10 Cabrini goal scorers with four goals on the day, while sophomore Sasha Wozniak and junior Jenn Robinson added three goals each.  Sophomore Jackie Neary tallied a pair of goals, while junior Allie Vallen paired a goal and three assists.

The Blue and White built an early lead, as sophomore Emily Crouse opened the scoring just over three minutes onto the action.  Fellow sophomore doubled the lead less than two minutes later, beginning a string of five unanswered goals in the next five minutes.

Less than 10 minutes into the game, the Cavaliers were off and running with a commanding 6-0 lead.  The Griffins ended the scoring streak with their first goal with 19:54 on the clock.  Robinson completed her hat trick at the 18:07 mark before Wozniak netted three straight goals.  The sophomore then found senior Caitlyn Poole with 75 seconds left in the first half, to give Cabrini a 11-1 lead at the break.

The Blue and White scoring streak extended into the second half, as Neary and Breuning combined for five unanswered goals in a nine minute stretch early in the half.  The run ended with 11 unanswered goals following senior Katie Lasater's goal midway through the period.

Sophomore Sara Johnsen closed Cabrini's scoring midway through the second period.

The Cavaliers owned a commanding 38-14 advantage in shots, including 26-5 in the opening 30 minutes.  The Blue and White also recorded 22 first half shots on goal to just three for the Griffins.  Wozniak fired a game high eight shots, one more than Breuning, while Crouse and Robinson tallied five shots each.

Senior Mo O'Connell and freshman Katie Kucia joined Wozniak with three caused turnovers each, while O'Connell and Lee corralled three draws each.   Vallen and sophomore Jackie Neary shared team high honors with three ground balls each.   

Junior goaltender Megan Barlow earned the victory before being replaced by freshman Devon Scharf.  The duo combined for five saves on the day.

Senior Danae Perrymond scored three goals for Gwynedd Mercy (4-11, 4-5 CSAC) in the final 14 minutes of play.  Sophomore Bria Gillard posted 13 saves in the loss.

Cabrini will close its regular season on Wednesday, as the club heads north to the University of Scranton (9-5, 4-1 Landmark).  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
