HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Cabrini softball team improved to 21-14 overall and 17-3 in CSAC play, after today's 15-2 and 7-1 wins over the Centenary College Cyclones.
Sophomore Jess Giordano started game one with her fourth home run of the year, as the three run home run scored senior Kaitlyn Cooper and sophomore Christine Ferraro.Â
An RBI double and single in the second inning by freshman Darian Caputo and Ferraro netted two more runs for the Blue and White.Â
Sophomore Sarah Beckner's two run home run to center field in the third inning extended the Cavalier lead to 7-0.Â
A huge eight run fifth inning for Cabrini expanded the lead to 15-0. With two outs and runners on first and second base, junior Taylor Mack singled to left to load the bases.Â
Junior Lindsay Savar and freshman Marissa Alpaugh crossed home plate on a Caputo single the following at bat. A Ferraro single the scored Mack, while Cooper's single to right field plated Caputo and Ferraro.Â
Giordano's single to left field boosted the score to 13-0, as Cooper crossed home plate. Savar stepped into the batters box and cranked a two run homer, her fifth on the season.
After holding the Cyclones scoreless through four innings, junior Kiley Sharp surrendered a pair in the fifth, but was able to stop the run and earn the win. The junior improved to 4-4 in the circle and struck out three Cyclones.Â
Giordano led with a game high four RBI, going 2-4 at the plate. Caputo went 2-3 and tallied three RBI and two runs scored, while Ferraro, Cooper, Savar and Beckner each notched a pair of RBI in the win, as Cabrini out hit Centenary, 17-8.Â
In game two, Alpaugh opened the scoring in the fourth inning, as the rookie scored on an infield error.Â
The Blue and White stretched its lead to 3-0 in the fifth, as Savar's single plated Cooper and Giordano.Â
In the sixth inning, Mack crossed home plate on a throwing error, as the third baseman's throw to first went off line. A couple batters later, Savar launched a three run home run over the center field wall to make it 7-0.Â
Giordano and the Cavaliers held the Cyclones to just one run in the seventh inning to capture their fourth straight victory.Â
Giordano allowed just five hits and one earned run through seven innings in the pitcher's circle. The sophomore stuck out six Cyclones on her way to earning her 11th win on the year. Â
Savar finished with all five of Cabrini's RBI, after going 3-4 from the batters box, while six Cavaliers combined for 11 hits in the win.Â
The Blue and White has a few days off before it is back in action, as the Cavaliers travel to Annville, Pa. on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Lebanon Valley College (17-14, 7-6 MAC Commonwealth). The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
