RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team finds itself in a familiar position today, as it has made its reservation for next Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference championship with today's 23-3 semifinal win over Marywood University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
With the schedule turning to postseason play, the No. 17 Cavaliers stepped onto the pitch with a renewed focus that was evident through the entire 60 minutes of play.
The Blue and White (13-4) outshot the Pacers 60-12, including 39-7 in shots on goal, and held Marywood without a shot in the first quarter. Cabrini pressured the Pacers into 22 turnovers, while committing just five of its own.
The dominance sprung control of the faceoff spot, as the Cavaliers won 24 of the game's 30 faceoffs. Senior
Chris Schneekloth won 18 of his 19 chances at the spot, while sophomores
Joe Simpson and
Riley Michaels combined for three wins.
Fifteen Cavaliers accounted for today's 23 goals, led by senior
Ethan Heisman who netted five goals for the fourth consecutive game. Freshmen
Jordan Krug and
Matt LoParo matched Heisman's six points on the day, as the rookies paired two goals and four assists each.
Senior
Kyle Bush and freshman
Timmy Brooks added three points each, recording two goals and a helper. Schneekloth and sophomores
Nile Luma and
James Magnani added a goal and an assist each, while seven other Cavaliers marked the scoring column.
The Blue and White controlled the action from the opening whistle, as LoParo hit Heisman for the game's first goal just 31 seconds in the game and Cabrini was off and running. The lead grew to 4-0 in the game's first five minutes.
The Cavaliers removed any doubt about the game's outcome in the final seconds of the first quarter. LoParo, Brooks and Heisman scored it the final 21 seconds of the period, pushing the lead to 10-0 after 15 minutes.
Despite giving the Pacers three man-up chances, the Blue and White kept its clean sheet through the second quarter, expanding its lead to 15-0 at the half.
The Cabrini cushion grew to 21-0 before Marywood senior Stephen Deiner put the Pacers on the board with 5:09 left in the third quarter.
Schneekloth earned game high honors with 10 ground balls on the day, while senior
Brian Kittredge added four ground balls and four caused turnovers to his goal. Simpson and Michaels also corralled three ground balls each.
Sophomore Pat Regan also chipped in with two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a goal.
Cabrini's trio of goaltenders, sophomores
Tyler Morrell and
Justin Bullivant and freshman

Diener tallied two goals for the Pacers (6-11), while freshman Vinny Biancardi and sophomore Chris Favale combined for 16 saves in the Marywood cage.
The Cavaliers will host Gwynedd Mercy (10-4) in Saturday's championship game at a time yet to be determined. The second seeded Griffins disposed of number three seed Centenary 17-3 in today's other CSAC semifinal.
