No. 14 Men's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini men's lacrosse team lost a day of preparation for today's game, but that didn't affect the Cavaliers much, as they scored a 17-2 victory at Marywood University.   Today's game was originally slated for Saturday afternoon but moved up to avoid Saturday's potential inclement weather.

With its fourth consecutive victory, the Blue and White improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  The win also pushed the Cavaliers conference win streak to 98 games.

Despite freshman Nicholas Waligurski scoring less than two minutes into the action, the Cavaliers got off to a slow start today.  Marywood evened the score six minutes later with a man-up goal.

Freshman Timmy Brooks snapped Cabrini's 11 minute scoring drought in the final minutes of the opening frame.  Junior Evan Downey's man-up goal in the final minute of the quarter gave the Cavaliers a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes.

The Blue and White found its rhythm in the second quarter, as Downey added a pair of goals to complete his hat trick.  Freshman Jordan Krug added a goal in the period, while fellow rookie Matt LoParo assisted on three of the four goals in the quarter.

The rookie's final assist came in the final seconds of the half, as he found senior Ethan Heisman with just one second left in the quarter, pushing the Blue and White lead to 7-1 at the half.

Despite fighting off six man-down situations in the third quarter, the Cavaliers exerted their will,  outscoring the Pacers 8-0 in the period.  All eight goals were scored by different players, while Downey and
Krug combined for five assists in the period.

Among the goal scorers were a pair of senior defenders in Matt Ward and Brian Kittredge, who recorded their first and second goals of the season, respectively.

Sophomore Ben Junior extended Cabrini's scoring run to 16 unanswered tallies with a pair of fourth quarter goals, marking the sophomore's first multi-goal game.

LoParo led the Blue and White with six points on the day, including five assists.  Downey added five points, pairing three goals and two helpers.  Krug notched four points, including three assists, while Heisman recorded two goals and an assist.

Brooks, Waligurski and Junior chipped in with two points each.

Senior faceoff specialist Chris Schneekloth sparked the offense, going 12-15 at the faceoff spot with six ground balls.  Ward secured five ground balls, while Kittredge paired four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Freshman Riley White recorded the victory in the Cabrini cage, while sophomore Tyler Morrell also saw 30 minutes of action.  Both netminders surrendered one goal against five saves.

Scott Slater and Austin Maylor scored for Marywood (4-8, 2-2 CSAC).  Goaltender Rick Blaine recorded 18 saves, caused three turnovers and scooped three ground balls.

The Cavaliers have a few days to get healthy before it steps out of conference play, as they head south to Salisbury, Md.  Cabrini will face No. 1 Salisbury University (14-0) next Saturday at 1 p.m.
