BRYN MAWR, PA – The Cabrini women's soccer team needed just another half second in today's match to even the score but it wasn't to be, as the Cavaliers suffered a season-opening 2-1 loss at Bryn Mawr College.
Trailing 2-1 in the 90th minute, the Cavaliers forced a Bryn Mawr save and a pair of corner kicks but its final attempt at the net saw the ball cross the goal line just after the clock struck 0:00.
Bryn Mawr scored the game's first goal, as Katherine Nichols converted a 35th minute penalty kick. The deficit was short lived, as junior
Marisa Christensen found sophomore
Brittany Woodruff just five minutes later.
The score remained tied until the 70th minute, when Nichols found Alexis Boutchie for the eventual game-winner.
The Blue and White outshot the Owls 13-7, including 7-3 in shots on goal. Junior
Kelsee Tironi fired a game-high three shots and joined Woodruff and fellow junior
Taylor Tralie with two shots on target.
Cabrini also earned six corner kicks to none for Bryn Mawr, including four coming in the final 20 minutes of action.
Junior
Gabby LeGendre recorded one save in the loss.
The Cavaliers will take a few days to recover, as the club will return to action on Sept. 7 when it welcomes Eastern University to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The renewed "Battle for Eagle Road" kicks off at 6:30pm.
