READING, PA – The Cabrini women's soccer team suffered its fifth consecutive defeat to open the 2016 season today, as the Cavaliers lost to Alvernia University 2-0.
Freshman
Alex Garces led the Blue and White with three of its five shots on the day and joined fellow rookie
Diana VanSickle and junior
Taylor Tralie with one shot on goal each.
Junior goaltender
Gabby LeGendre notched five saves in the loss.
Alvernia opened the scoring in the 31st minute, as a Cabrini foul in the penalty area gave the Crusaders a penalty kick, converted by Bailey Stover.
The score remained 1-0 through the halftime break, but Alvernia returned to the scoring column less than two minutes into the second half.
A header off a Crusaders' corner kick bounced off the post, but Lauren Gough was in position to put the ball back into the net.
Gough and Kayla McNamee led Alvernia (3-3) with three shots each, while goaltender Jessica Plunkett recorded three saves.
The Blue and White will return to action on Tuesday, when they welcome Delaware Valley University to Edith Robb Dixon field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm.
