MADISON, NJ – After opening the season with consecutive losses, the Cabrini field hockey team scored its first win of the season today, topping host Rangers 6-0 at the Drew University Fall Festival.
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 1-2 on the year, while Drew fell to 0-2.
Senior
Taylor Mack led the Blue and White with a career best eight points, tying a career high with three goals and two assists. Junior
Maddy Worley recorded the first two goal game of her career, while classmate
Jackie Neary served up a career high two assists.
The Cavaliers were in control of the action from the opening whistle, as Neary hit Mack for the game's first goal in the third minute. Just 40 seconds later, Mack's diagonal pass found Worley to extend the lead to 2-0.
Junior
Megan McLoughlin notched her second assist of the season in the 11th minute, as her pass found Worley. Cabrini took advantage of one of its six first half penalty corners in the 25th minute, as Mack's pass found classmate
Kylie McDevitt, whose long distance shot found the back of the cage.
Cabrini outshot the Rangers 11-0 in the opening 35 minutes to build a 4-0 halftime break.
Mack added a pair of second half goals, marking the scoring column in the 42nd and 52nd minutes, the latter off a Neary pass.
The Blue and White outshot Drew 17-1 on the day, including a 15-1 advantage on shots on goal. Cabrini also forced 11 penalty corners to just one for Drew.
Mack led the Cavaliers with five shots, one more than Worley, while junior
Sara DeVita and freshman
Brittney Morello added two each.
Junior
Taylor Bookman notched one save and shared the shutout with freshman
Noelia Ramirez.
Drew goaltender Ryann Callaghan notched eight saves in the loss.
The Cavaliers have a few days to relax before returning to action on Thursday, when they host No. 3 The College of New Jersey (1-0). Game time is slated for 6:30pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
