CLARKS SUMMIT, PA – The Cabrini men's soccer team pushed its win streak to six matches today, as it scored a 4-1 victory at Clarks Summit University.
With today's victory, the Cavaliers improved to 6-7-1 overall and 6-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. With three league games remaining in the regular season, the Blue and White own a five point cushion at the top of the conference standings.
Cabrini fell behind in the 13th minute, as Clarks Summit's Ian Self converted a penalty kick.
The Cavaliers answered in the 27th minute, as freshman
John Griffin dribbled down the right side and beat the Defenders' goaltender for his third goal of the campaign.
Junior
Matt Ochman gave the Cavaliers the lead six minutes later, as senior
Ben Roda's cross found the junior's forehead.
Despite both teams recording nine first half shots, the Blue and White took advantage of its chances and led 2-0 at the half.
Cabrini showed no let-down after the break, as freshman
Josh Cunningham converted a pass from sophomore
Andre Justin into his second goal of the season and a 3-1 lead in the 54th minute.
Justin added a goal to his stat line in the 68th minute, as the sophomore received a low cross from classmate
Christopher Araujo and tapped the ball into the net.
The Cavaliers owned a 21-15 advantage in shots on the day and earned 10 corner kicks to just two for Clarks Summit. Griffin led Cabrini with six shots, two more than Ochman, while Roda, Justin and Cunningham added two each.
Freshman
Anthony Zampirri earned the victory in the net, recording three saves in 78 minutes of action. Sophomore
John Warwick added one save in relief.
Nathan Hubbard led the Defenders (6-9-1, 1-4-1 CSAC) with five shots, while goaltender Evan Rarick notched eight saves.
The Blue and White will return to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Immaculata University (4-9-1, 2-4 CSAC). Kickoff is slated for 4pm at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
